School Lunches
Our school meals are provided by Aspens Catering who have a healthy food policy as part of their tender. This includes the use of fresh fruit and vegetables each day as a choice for the children. The caterers provide a daily choice of hot menus which pay regard to nutritional balance and healthy options. Menus for each day are sent home to parents twice a year so they can discuss with their children what they are going to choose to eat. Menus are also available from the school office. The children are asked to choose their lunch during morning registration so that we can ensure that all children have the meal of their choice. School meals cost £2.35 per day (Yrs 3-4 only) and are payable in advance. If you are on income support or similar your child may be entitled to free school meals and milk (see link on Parent Information page or ask at the School Office for further information).
All children in the Nursery, Reception class, Year 1 and Year 2 receive fresh fruit or raw vegetables (i.e. carrot, tomato) as a mid morning snack which is provided free of charge as part of a National programme to encourage the '5 a day' initiative.
Hertfordshire County Council provide free milk for Nursery children and subsidised milk for Reception class to Year 2 children as a mid morning drink. Water is freely available from chilled water outlets at all times.
Children can, of course, choose to bring a packed lunch from home if they wish but we ask that this is healthy too and cannot contain nuts (including peanut butter), sweets or fizzy drinks. We also ask that children do not bring chocolate bars or individually wrapped chocolates. Grapes in lunch boxes should be cut in half length ways.
