Weekly Update - Autumn 1 / Week 7

Dear Parents and Carers

We are nearly at the end of our first term and we have had a wonderful week in Reception, full of creativity, movement, and learning experiences!

🌟 Phonics Focus
This week, we introduced the children to four new phonics sounds: b, h, f, and l. They have also learnt the tricky word ‘the’. You might hear them spotting these sounds in words around the house—encourage them to share what they’ve learned! We will begin issuing reading books after half term so look out for them in your child’s book bag.

📖 Story Time: Meesha Makes Friends
Our core text this week was Meesha Makes Friends by Tom Percival. This beautiful story helped us explore the theme of friendship and how we can be kind and inclusive. The children had thoughtful discussions about how Meesha felt and how we can help others feel included.

🎨 Junk Modelling: Creating Our Own Friends
Inspired by Meesha’s creativity, the children used junk modelling materials to make their own ‘friends’. It was fantastic to see their imaginations come to life—robots, animals, and magical creatures filled our classroom! This activity also supported their fine motor skills as they cut and connected materials together.

🚲 Gross Motor Fun on the Balance Bikes
Outdoors, the children developed their gross motor skills by riding balance bikes. They practised coordination, balance, and had lots of fun navigating around cones and tracks.

Thank you for your continued support. Don’t forget to ask your child about their favourite part of the week!

Warm wishes
The Reception Team
