Reception

Nursery and Reception class are both part of the Foundation Stage and teach the Early Years  Foundation Stage national curriculum (EYFS).  This curriculum underpins all future learning by supporting, fostering and promoting children in the following areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These needs are met through play, teaching strategies based on children's learning needs, provision of a wide range of opportunities aimed at motivating children to learn effectively and  planned activities.  We plan from the EYFS and follow pupils’ interests where possible to make learning real, fun and relevant.  Our Foundation Stage classes are set up with the seven areas of learning accessible both inside and outside.  Pupils have free flow bewteen the inside and outside areas so they can learn in a way which suits their needs best.  There are also times of direct teaching and small group work.  All children have their progress monitored and extra support is provided where necessary.   Click on the links below to view Curriculum information or for links to our other classes.
