Children
At Roman Way Academy we believe that our pupils are the most important people! Our head teacher, Mrs Shah, is always keen to know what the children think and they have lots of opportunities to share their thoughts on school issues – both formally and informally.
School Council
The main aim of the School Council is to help to make our school a better place for the children and to give the children an opportunity to have their opinions and ideas heard. Each class in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have two representatives who are elected every year. The school council usually meet about once a month with Mrs Shah to talk about a range of issues.
The class representatives tell the children in their classes what has been discussed at each meeting and the children can ask the representatives to take forward their ideas to the next meeting.
Our School Council members are:
Squirrels: Sienna and Oscar S
Foxes: Teddy and Imogen
Hedgehogs: Iris and Stanley
Puffins: Skye and Joseph
Badgers: Sophia and Tommy
Eagles
In Year 4 children have the opportunity to become an Eagle and take on particular responsibilities within school. These include: Assembly preparation, Taking the registers to classes, taking letters etc to classes, Showing visitors around school.
Buddies
When the children enter Year 4 they are encouraged to apply to be a Roman Way Buddy. The children complete an application form and are then allocated a job. These jobs include: Dining room helpers, helping the younger children during lunchtime, Buddying in the playground at lunchtime.
